The 1P24 sits one step above the 1P14 and the step is the wheel. It is 24 in across against 16 in, and it carries 34 bolt-in carbide teeth against 12 round ones, which is what lets it take small and midsized stumps rather than only small ones. The tractor requirement does not move much: 20 to 45 horsepower, hydrostatic drive, Category I three point hitch.

Like the 1P14 it is fed by gravity rather than by a cylinder, so a tractor with no rear remotes runs it as delivered, and the same swing hinge protects the cut if the tractor creeps forward. What changes is the tooth. The 34 teeth are bolt-in with a three quarter inch shank, and the count is the point: with more teeth in the cut each one takes a smaller bite, so they wear slower and usually only two or three need changing at a time rather than a full set.

Behind the teeth is a three quarter inch steel wheel, which is the part that stops the cut chattering. A wheel that flexes throws the teeth off line; a solid one carries its own momentum through the hard part of a stump. The supplier rates a 12 in by 12 in cut at 8 minutes behind a 40 horsepower tractor and 10 minutes behind 30, so the tractor at the top of the band earns its keep on a working day rather than on a single stump.

Selection Notes

Size the tractor first. This model asks for hydrostatic drive, and the supplier states that as a requirement rather than a preference.
Cat I quick hitch compatible, so it couples without a manual pin up where the tractor carries a quick hitch.
The teeth are bolt-in and are changed a few at a time rather than as a set, and the supplier ships a free six pack of spares with a new unit.
A D001627 24-pack of S1000 teeth can be added at purchase. It is the same tooth the machine ships with, so it is a stock-up choice rather than a different cutting setup.
Measure before ordering. The supplier states that a tractor measuring less than 20 in from the PTO lock groove to the centre of the lower link arm pin holes needs its D005735 extension kit, which can be added in the buy box or bought separately.
