The Baumalight MS530M is a fixed-tooth brush mulcher for standard mini skid steers, running a 42 in path and a 30 in rotor with 44 carbide-tipped bolt-in teeth in a spiral pattern. It weighs 715 lb, cuts from 1.5 in above grade to level, and carries an integrated push bar and adjustable skid shoes. Hydraulic couplers are supplied and a case drain connection is critical.

The MS530M puts a mulching head on a mini skid steer. At 42 in of path and 30 in of rotor it is built for the machines that get into back yards, trail corridors and fence lines a full-size carrier cannot reach, and it does the work with 44 carbide-tipped teeth in a spiral pattern rather than with a flail or a rotary blade.

The features on it are the ones that decide whether a small machine can actually work all day. An integrated push bar controls and bends taller brush into the rotor. Adjustable skid shoes set the cutting height. Armoured and sleeved hoses run through a pivoting arm that keeps the slack out of the pinch points, and a wire protection kit guards the rotor shaft where old fence wire would otherwise wrap and destroy a bearing. The bent axis piston motor is what turns a mini carrier's flow into usable rotor speed.

One motor is offered rather than a range, the C508. The motor's capacity is charted against carrier flow rather than given as a single flow figure, and that chart is in Technical Details. What it gives is a maximum brush diameter for each pairing of flow and rated pressure, so the carrier's measured numbers read straight across to the size of material the head will take. Case drain is critical at every rated pressure the chart carries, which is the one carrier question to settle before ordering this head.

Selection Notes

  • Match the head to the carrier by weight first: this model is charted against a minimum carrier weight of 2,000 lb.
  • Case drain is critical on this model. Confirm the carrier has one before ordering.
  • Choose the MS530M for the common industry mini skid steer plate. Bobcat MT carriers take the MS530B instead, which has the Bobcat adaptor plate and a longer frame for the Quickattach handles.
  • Hydraulic couplers are supplied with this model.
  • Read the motor chart below against the carrier's measured flow and pressure. The columns are a brush-size capacity by flow rather than a stated flow requirement, so they tell you what the head will cut on your machine rather than what your machine must produce.
  • Confirm the coupler face with the supplier at time of order.
  • Two tooth styles are offered on the 500 series. Planer teeth take small bites and cut most efficiently. Ripper teeth shred, and their V shape resists stone impacts, which makes them the better choice below grade and in fence lines.
