Shipping: LTL freight. Commercial delivery preferred.

The Baumalight S40 is the fastest machine in the skid steer stump grinder range, cutting on both swing directions behind dual swing cylinders. It runs a 24 in rotor with 12 rotatable round carbide teeth on a 1.25 in steel plate, reaches 24 in below grade, and carries a hinged blast shield with dual rows of chain curtain.

Shipping & Freight

Delivery is available to the Lower 48 only; no shipping to Alaska, Hawaii or other US territories. Shipping is a flat rate based on your order total:

  • Orders up to $5,000: $279
  • Orders $5,000.01 to $10,000: $347
  • Orders $10,000.01 and over: $517

These rates cover standard freight delivery to a commercial address. After you place your order, our team will confirm your delivery timeline within 1 to 3 business days.

Liftgate service is required if your delivery location has no loading dock or forklift to unload the freight. If you are unsure whether you need it, contact us before ordering.

Commercial delivery locations are preferred when available. Residential delivery, limited-access locations, and appointment scheduling may affect handling and extend delivery time.

Lead times vary by product, manufacturer availability, and selected options. Some configured, special-order, or non-stock items require additional processing time before they ship.

Please inspect all freight shipments at delivery before signing. If you see visible damage, note it with the carrier and contact us as soon as possible.

If you need freight, delivery, or lead-time guidance before ordering, contact our team before you purchase.

Compatibility / Fitment

Compatibility varies by product type, machine setup, selected options, and intended application.

For machine-mounted equipment and attachments, buyers should confirm fitment before ordering using the relevant machine information, including model, attachment style, mount type, coupler type, hydraulic requirements, and any other product-specific requirements listed on the page.

Hardscape Heavy can assist with pre-order fitment guidance based on the information you provide. This guidance is limited to purchase and compatibility review before ordering and does not include field installation, hydraulic modification, fabrication, or on-site setup support.

If you are unsure whether a product will work with your machine or application, contact us before placing the order.

Returns & Warranty

Warranty coverage is provided by the product manufacturer where applicable. Warranty terms, coverage periods, exclusions, and claim procedures vary by brand and product type.

Hardscape Heavy does not create separate warranty coverage beyond the manufacturer’s warranty unless explicitly stated on the product page.

Returns are governed by our store return policy. Because many products in this category involve freight shipping, special ordering, or configuration-specific selections, return eligibility may vary by product and condition. Special-order, custom-configured, used, damaged, or installed items may not be eligible for return.

Please review our full return policy before purchase. If you have questions about return eligibility or manufacturer warranty coverage for a specific item, contact us before ordering.

The Baumalight S40 grinds stumps behind a 50 to 120 HP high flow skid steer and reaches 24 in below grade, against 15 in on the next deepest models in this range, over a 22 in path on an 85 degree arc. It is for contractors and land clearing crews taking out large stumps and the roots running away from them, where the job is measured in root spread rather than trunk diameter.

It is built around speed rather than tooth count, and the two figures that show it sit beside each other on the chart: twelve teeth against the thirty-four the mid size machines run, on the fastest and widest swing in the range. The teeth are the high speed round type and they work on both directions of the swing, so the return stroke earns its travel, and dual cylinders rather than one carry the arc, which is what keeps it controlled at that speed. The rotor is a 1.25 in plate, the heaviest here, and the hinged blast shield with its dual chain rows contains debris during the pass and lifts to open the rotor for tooth changes.

Both motors are bent axis piston units and both mark the case drain as critical rather than recommended, so a carrier without a case drain port rules the machine out before the motor choice arises. Between them the choice is a carrier question and not a bigger-is-better one: the 56 cc S740 is markedly the faster of the two through the middle of the range, while the 84 cc S770 is slower there and wins only at the very top, on a flow most carriers will not supply. Read the chart in Technical Details against what the carrier actually makes. Control is settled the same way: the attachment plugs straight into the carrier's auxiliary electrical connection and runs from the cab controls, where an older carrier has no such connection the supplier's D004460 in-cab adapter runs it off a 12 volt feed instead, and for a Bobcat with the 7 pin connector the supplier offers a Greentronics CANBUS controller in place of the standard plug, so the choice is about the carrier's wiring and not about the machine. For a crew clearing large stumps at volume, this is the fastest machine in the range and the only one that reaches two feet down.

Common Applications

  • Stump removal on landscape, grounds and site clearance work
  • Root and stump removal ahead of regrading or paving
  • Rental fleet stump grinding on large skid steers and track loaders
  • Fence row and right of way clearing behind a large carrier

Selection Notes

  • Both motors want a case drain and the supplier marks it critical rather than recommended. Confirm the carrier has the port before ordering either.
  • The larger motor reaches a flow band most carriers will not supply. Match the motor to what the carrier actually delivers rather than to the machine.
  • This model carries 12 teeth where the mid size machines carry 34. It is built for speed and depth rather than for a fine finish pass.
  • The teeth rotate to a fresh edge three times before replacement, and the supplier ships 3 spares and a spare tooth holder rather than the 6 spares the rest of this range ships.
  • The blast shield is hinged. Raising it is how the head gets into tight ground and how the rotor is reached for tooth changes.
  • Settle the control route before ordering. A carrier with an auxiliary electrical connection runs the attachment from its own cab controls; for an older carrier without one the supplier's D004460 in-cab adapter is its stated answer; for a Bobcat with the 7 pin connector the 7-pin CANBUS choice is the supplier's Greentronics controller, supplied without the 7 pin plug and the 11 ft Bobcat wire and stated incompatible with Bobcat telehandlers.
