Shipping: LTL freight. Commercial delivery preferred.

The Baumalight MS548 is a 500 series fixed-tooth brush mulcher for skid steers, running a 62 in path and a 48 in rotor with 72 carbide-tipped bolt-in teeth. It weighs 1,491 lb, cuts from 1.5 in above grade to level, and is sized for universal-mount carriers from 4,000 lb, the lightest carrier requirement in the full-size 500 series. Six hydraulic motor options are offered, in two motor types.

Shipping & Freight

Delivery is available to the Lower 48 only; no shipping to Alaska, Hawaii or other US territories. Shipping is a flat rate based on your order total:

  • Orders up to $5,000: $279
  • Orders $5,000.01 to $10,000: $347
  • Orders $10,000.01 and over: $517

These rates cover standard freight delivery to a commercial address. After you place your order, our team will confirm your delivery timeline within 1 to 3 business days.

Liftgate service is required if your delivery location has no loading dock or forklift to unload the freight. If you are unsure whether you need it, contact us before ordering.

Commercial delivery locations are preferred when available. Residential delivery, limited-access locations, and appointment scheduling may affect handling and extend delivery time.

Lead times vary by product, manufacturer availability, and selected options. Some configured, special-order, or non-stock items require additional processing time before they ship.

Please inspect all freight shipments at delivery before signing. If you see visible damage, note it with the carrier and contact us as soon as possible.

If you need freight, delivery, or lead-time guidance before ordering, contact our team before you purchase.

Compatibility / Fitment

Compatibility varies by product type, machine setup, selected options, and intended application.

For machine-mounted equipment and attachments, buyers should confirm fitment before ordering using the relevant machine information, including model, attachment style, mount type, coupler type, hydraulic requirements, and any other product-specific requirements listed on the page.

Hardscape Heavy can assist with pre-order fitment guidance based on the information you provide. This guidance is limited to purchase and compatibility review before ordering and does not include field installation, hydraulic modification, fabrication, or on-site setup support.

If you are unsure whether a product will work with your machine or application, contact us before placing the order.

Returns & Warranty

Warranty coverage is provided by the product manufacturer where applicable. Warranty terms, coverage periods, exclusions, and claim procedures vary by brand and product type.

Hardscape Heavy does not create separate warranty coverage beyond the manufacturer’s warranty unless explicitly stated on the product page.

Returns are governed by our store return policy. Because many products in this category involve freight shipping, special ordering, or configuration-specific selections, return eligibility may vary by product and condition. Special-order, custom-configured, used, damaged, or installed items may not be eligible for return.

Please review our full return policy before purchase. If you have questions about return eligibility or manufacturer warranty coverage for a specific item, contact us before ordering.

The MS548 is the entry point into Baumalight's 500 series, the line built to maintain and clear fence lines on farms and to carry entry level contractor work. It mulches heavy brush and small trees on a full-size skid steer, clearing a 62 in swath over a 48 in rotor so a run closes in fewer passes than the cutting width alone suggests. It asks less of the machine than any other head in the series, which puts 500 series mulching on a carrier that could not pick up the wider heads. It works from above grade down to level rather than below it, so it takes standing material and surface growth and leaves what sits under the surface.

Two choices decide how this head is ordered, and the first is the motor. On this model that choice crosses two motor types rather than sizes of one: A450 and B550 are roller vane motors, and the C options are bent axis piston. The difference is not cosmetic. Baumalight charts case drain as unnecessary at the lower pressures on the roller vane options and as critical at every rated pressure on the piston ones, and it warns that a roller vane motor's maximum flow must never be exceeded or the motor fails, where a piston motor runs well past that point before it does. The second choice is the tooth: planer teeth take small bites and cut most efficiently, while ripper teeth shred instead and their V shape resists the stone impacts that shatter a flat profile, which makes them the better choice in fence lines. Units ship on P5000 planer teeth and take ripper teeth as the planer set wears, and the rotor can run a mix. Match the motor option to the carrier's measured flow on Baumalight's own motor chart before ordering, and confirm the carrier's case drain against the option chosen.

Common Applications

  • Fence line maintenance and clearing
  • Entry level contractor land clearing
  • Cutting and mulching heavy brush and small trees
  • Right of way and trail work from a full-size skid steer

Selection Notes

  • Match the head to the carrier by weight first: this model is charted against a minimum carrier weight of 4,000 lb, the lightest in the full-size 500 series.
  • Six motor options are offered in two types. A450 and B550 are roller vane motors charted at three rated pressures; C508, C510, C530 and C540 are bent axis piston motors charted at four.
  • Case drain is charted per option rather than per model. It is critical at every rated pressure on all four piston options, and on the roller vane options it is not needed at the lower pressures and required at the top of their range. Confirm the carrier against the option being ordered.
  • A roller vane motor's charted maximum flow must never be exceeded or the motor will fail. A bent axis piston motor runs considerably further past its band before it does.
  • Hydraulic couplers are not supplied with this model. Baumalight ships no couplers with the product because carrier fittings vary too widely, so they are ordered separately against the carrier.
  • Two tooth styles are offered on the 500 series and the choice is a real one. Planer teeth take small bites and cut most efficiently, but their flat profile leaves them vulnerable to shattering against rock and debris. Ripper teeth shred instead, and their V shape resists impacts with hard objects, which makes them the better choice in fence lines.
  • Units ship with P5000 planer teeth fitted. Ripper teeth go on as the planer teeth need replacing, and the rotor can be run with a mix of the two styles.
  • Choose the motor option against the carrier's measured flow and pressure.

72 carbide tipped bolt-in teeth
Hardened v-notch holders absorb impacts from multiple directions, and worn teeth are replaced in the field rather than the rotor being sent out
Two tooth styles on the same head
P5000 planer for clean efficient cutting, R5000 ripper for stony ground and fence lines, and the rotor runs a mix
Two motor types on one head
Roller vane options suit a carrier with modest flow, bent axis piston options make the most of a carrier that has more
Pressure gauge and relief valve
The operator sees how close the machine is to relief, and the valve opens on an obstacle before a pressure spike reaches the motor or the hydraulic system
Integrated push bar and two-position skid shoes
Taller brush is bent into the rotor and cutting height is set for the ground being cleared
Chain curtain and wire protection kit
Standing brush enters and mulched debris exits at the rear, kept down by the curtain, and wire fencing is kept out of the rotor
