The Baumalight S22 grinds stumps behind a 25 to 65 HP skid steer and swings its head on a 12 volt actuator rather than a hydraulic cylinder, so every gallon the carrier makes reaches the rotor. It is for owner-operators doing landscape, grounds and clearance work, including on close cut grass where the head has to swing while the machine stands still.

It puts the electric swing of the small models onto a full size frame with a universal skid steer adapter, and the swing draws from the carrier's battery, which recharges while the machine tracks to the next stump. The 24 in rotor carries 34 bolt-in planer teeth standing 1.25 in proud of the face so chips clear rather than pack, and a floating deflector holds debris down over the work. The rotor itself is a three quarter inch steel plate, the anchor the teeth bolt to, and it has to stay flat: a rotor that flexes throws the teeth off line, where a solid one carries its own momentum through the hard part of a stump.

The supplier is direct about the limit of this model as well as its strengths: the S22 is the lighter build, it costs less, and it grinds a little faster because all the oil reaches the drive, but a business running several operators, a rental fleet, or an owner on a large carrier is pointed at the S24 or larger, where the heavier frame and its hydraulic cylinders take rougher handling. Between the two motors the 125 cc S450 needs no case drain while the 130 cc S550 wants one, and the S550 earns that port mainly by reaching well past the S450's ceiling: on the two flows they share the chart has them level at the lower one and gives the S550 a little back at the higher. Check the carrier's 12 volt supply either way, because the actuator needs constant power through a 30 amp fuse and the supplier states that anything smaller will fail in normal work. Control is the last thing to settle and it follows the carrier: the attachment plugs into the carrier's own auxiliary electrical connection and runs from the cab controls, and on an older machine without that connection the supplier's D006990 in-cab adapter plugs into the attachment off a 12 volt feed and does the same job, which is why both are offered as a choice rather than one being assumed.

Selection Notes

• The supplier positions this model for owner-operators and points multi-operator businesses, rental fleets and large carriers at the S24 or larger. Read that against how the machine will be used.
• Check the carrier's 12 volt supply before ordering. The swing actuator needs constant power through a 30 amp fuse, and the supplier states that anything smaller will fail in normal work.
• The S450 needs no case drain. The S550 wants one, so check the carrier has the port before choosing it.
• Settle the control route before ordering. Where the carrier has an auxiliary electrical connection the attachment runs from the cab controls with nothing added; where it has none, the supplier's D006990 in-cab hand control adapter is its stated answer for an older machine.
• Hydraulic couplers are not supplied on this model.
