The 1P14 is the smallest machine in the Baumalight three point stump grinder range, and it exists for one reason: to put a stump grinder behind a subcompact tractor. The sizing is what places it. The supplier asks for 20 to 45 horsepower, hydrostatic drive and a Category I three point hitch, and the machine is light enough for a subcompact to carry on its hitch and lift clear.

The feed is the part worth understanding. There is no cylinder and no remote to plumb. The head is fed by gravity, using the weight of the grinder itself to hold the wheel into the cut, so a tractor with no rear remotes runs this machine as delivered. The hinge does the safety work: if the tractor creeps forward while the wheel is in the stump, the head swings out a little rather than loading up, which keeps even pressure on the cut.

The wheel is 16 in and carries 12 high speed round teeth with a concave carbide tip, cut from half inch steel plate. That plate is the anchor the teeth bolt to and it has to stay flat, because a wheel that flexes throws the teeth off line, and its own weight is what carries the cut through the hard part of a stump. The round tooth is the maintenance story. Each one loosens off, indexes to a fresh edge and locks again, and it does that three times before it is finished, so a set lasts three times as long as a fixed tooth would. The drive is protected by a slip clutch on the shaft, which gives way if the wheel finds a rock instead of passing the shock into the tractor. On the supplier's own grind time chart this machine clears a cut as quickly as the larger 1P24 at every tractor size the two share, so the step up to that model buys reach and depth rather than speed.

Selection Notes

Size the tractor first. This model asks for hydrostatic drive, and the supplier states that as a requirement rather than a preference.
Measure before ordering. The supplier states that a tractor measuring less than 20 in from the PTO lock groove to the centre of the lower link arm pin holes needs its D007601 extension kit, which can be added in the buy box or bought separately.
Cat I quick hitch compatible, so it couples without a manual pin up where the tractor carries a quick hitch.
The teeth index three times to a fresh edge before replacement, and the supplier ships a free six pack of spares with a new unit.
