Contractor-Grade Equipment

The EM12M is Essick's 12 cu ft towable plaster and mortar mixer on a mechanical gearbox drive, turned by an 11.7 HP Honda GX390UT and carrying a 9-gauge steel drum on a rectangular frame. Gears and clutch run fully immersed in oil and the paddle shaft uses a maintenance-free seal system that needs no greasing.

Shipping & Freight

We ship to the 48 contiguous states. We do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, US territories, military (APO/FPO/DPO) addresses or outside the United States.

Smaller items ship by parcel carrier, priced by weight. Larger items and heavy equipment ship by LTL freight, priced by your ZIP code and the delivery type you choose: terminal pickup and dock delivery cost the least, and commercial liftgate, residential liftgate and jobsite delivery each add the carrier’s fee. Your shipping cost is shown at checkout before you pay.

The best way to get a shipping quote or ask a freight question is the Get a Freight Quote button on this page. You can also call (805) 398-6165.

Delivery types, delivery times, terminal pickup, liftgate service and damage inspection are covered in our Shipping Policy.

Compatibility / Fitment

Compatibility varies by product type, machine setup, selected options, and intended application.

For machine-mounted equipment and attachments, buyers should confirm fitment before ordering using the relevant machine information, including model, attachment style, mount type, coupler type, hydraulic requirements, and any other product-specific requirements listed on the page.

Hardscape Heavy can assist with pre-order fitment guidance based on the information you provide. This guidance is limited to purchase and compatibility review before ordering and does not include field installation, hydraulic modification, fabrication, or on-site setup support.

If you are unsure whether a product will work with your machine or application, contact us before placing the order.

Essick has been building this class of mason's mixer for over ninety years, and the EM12M is the heavy end of the mechanical-drive range: the largest drum, the thickest wall, and a gearbox instead of a belt between the engine and the paddle shaft. Running the gears and the clutch fully immersed in oil is what lets the drive take a stiff mix without the slip a belt gives, and it is the reason this machine is specified where batches run all day rather than in bursts.

The paddle shaft seals are the part that normally kills a mixer, because grit works into a greased seal and takes the bearing with it; Essick uses a maintenance-free seal system on this machine that requires no greasing at all. The drum sits on a rectangular tube frame over highway tires with heavy-duty safety chains supplied, and the machine is available with a loop, ball or pin-type coupler so it hitches to whatever the crew already tows with. This is built for the masonry contractors and plastering crews whose mixer is on a job every day of the week, not for the yard that pulls one out for a pour.

Common Applications

  • Mixing mortar for masonry, block and brick work at full crew scale
  • Mixing plaster and stucco on continuous commercial work
  • Mixing stiff structural mixes that would slip a belt-driven machine
  • Towed batch work where the mixer moves between sites behind a truck

Selection Notes

  • The mechanical gearbox is the reason to choose this over the belt-driven EM70 and EM90 machines; it is the drive to pick when the mixes are stiff and the day is long
  • Confirm the coupler type at order, since the machine is offered with a loop, a 2 in ball, or a pin-type coupler rather than one fixed hitch
  • Two further 12 cu ft mechanical-drive builds are offered at this capacity with 5 HP electric motors, single phase and three phase; confirm the part number and configuration with the supplier before specifying an electric drive here
