Contractor-Grade Equipment

The EM70-Series is Essick's 7 cu ft steel-drum plaster and mortar mixer, built on a 10-gauge drum with a V-belt drive and a manual dump at a 21 in discharge height. It is ordered with one of four drives: a 4.8 HP or 7.9 HP Honda engine, a 9 HP MPower engine, or a 1.5 HP Baldor electric motor for 115/230 V single-phase supply.

Shipping & Freight

We ship to the 48 contiguous states. We do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, US territories, military (APO/FPO/DPO) addresses or outside the United States.

Smaller items ship by parcel carrier, priced by weight. Larger items and heavy equipment ship by LTL freight, priced by your ZIP code and the delivery type you choose: terminal pickup and dock delivery cost the least, and commercial liftgate, residential liftgate and jobsite delivery each add the carrier’s fee. Your shipping cost is shown at checkout before you pay.

The best way to get a shipping quote or ask a freight question is the Get a Freight Quote button on this page. You can also call (805) 398-6165.

Delivery types, delivery times, terminal pickup, liftgate service and damage inspection are covered in our Shipping Policy.

Compatibility / Fitment

Compatibility varies by product type, machine setup, selected options, and intended application.

For machine-mounted equipment and attachments, buyers should confirm fitment before ordering using the relevant machine information, including model, attachment style, mount type, coupler type, hydraulic requirements, and any other product-specific requirements listed on the page.

Hardscape Heavy can assist with pre-order fitment guidance based on the information you provide. This guidance is limited to purchase and compatibility review before ordering and does not include field installation, hydraulic modification, fabrication, or on-site setup support.

If you are unsure whether a product will work with your machine or application, contact us before placing the order.

A plaster and mortar mixer earns its place on a job by turning out a consistent batch fast enough that the crew never waits on mud, and this is the smallest of Essick's three steel-drum sizes. Essick builds it around a thick steel drum on a tubular frame, with paddles turning against the drum wall to work sand, cement and water into a mix that stays uniform to the last shovel. Four drives are offered against the same machine, so the choice is engine or motor, not a different mixer.

The drum turns on a V-belt drive, which slips rather than stalls when a heavy mix loads the paddles, and the whole batch discharges through a manual dump set high enough that a wheelbarrow or a tub goes underneath without a ramp. The engine cover is punched for ventilation, which is what keeps an air-cooled engine alive on a machine that runs in the sun with cement dust hanging around it. This is built for the masonry and stucco crews mixing batch after batch through a working day, and for the contractor who wants one small machine to cover a truck rather than a fleet.

Common Applications

  • Mixing mortar for masonry and block work
  • Mixing plaster and stucco on site
  • Mixing grout and small structural mixes on a crew-sized job
  • Batch mixing where the material has to be discharged straight into a tub or barrow

Selection Notes

  • The four drives cover the same 7 cu ft machine; pick the electric build where site power is available and exhaust is not wanted indoors, and an engine build where the machine has to work away from a supply
  • Among the engines, the 9 HP MPower has the highest output and is the lowest-priced of the four drives overall; of the two Honda builds, the 4.8 HP costs less.
  • Step up to the EM90-Series where the batch size wanted is 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 bags rather than 1-1/2 to 2-1/2, since drum capacity is the only axis that changes between them

The wall the paddles work against is the part that wears, and this one is specified thicker than the cover around the engine
V-belt drive
A heavy mix loads the belt rather than the engine, so a stiff batch slips instead of stalling
Four drives on one machine
The same mixer covers an indoor job on site power and a remote job on gas without changing machines
